Dr. Gayathri Arakere, Research Fellow.

Gayathri Arakere obtained her Ph.D from Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She has post-doctoral experience at Yale, Harward and Johns Hopkins Universities working on adeno and polyoma viruses. She has worked at the Bacterial Vaccines division, Center for Biological Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Her research interests at CBER included meningococcal and haemophilus type b vaccines and development of diagnostics for bacterial infectious diseases in particular and a broad interest in bacterial pathogenesis. She has publications in national and international journals. At present she is working on understanding the mechanism of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus.


Ms. Bharathi D, Laboratory Technician. 

Bharathi .D has completed her MS.c in Microbiology from Bangalore University in the year 1998. She is working as the Laboratory technician in SDTC since the year 2000. She is an active participant in the major Centre activities namely organization and conduction of workshops and annual symposia and the preparation for the Centre’s publications. She is presently working on the project “Therapeutic efficacy and correlation of Pfcrt and Pfmdr1 mutations with chloroquine resistance in Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Karnataka” under the guidance of Lt. Gen. D. Raghunath, and in collaboration with Malaria Research Centre. 


Ms. Savitha Nadig, Project Assistant.


Savitha Nadig has completed her MSc in Microbiology from Mysore University. She is presently working as a project assistant under the guidance of Dr.Gayathri Arakere. Her previous experiences include working as a project assistant in different labs in Indian Institute of Science and Vittal Mallya Research Foundation Bangalore. She is presently involved in two major projects titled “Genotyping of MRSA strains from various parts of India” and “Molecular analysis of Methicillin and mechanism of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus”.
